Serhiy's plans for the season
What breaking teacher Serhiy Banko has in store for his students this season.
A jam of our own. One of Serhiy's personal goals is to run a full breaking jam at IDC. Still at the planning stage — no date yet.
"Your Breaking". His personal goal for this winter is to compete at the "Your Breaking" championship. Meanwhile the younger group is working through the fundamentals, and with the older students the focus is firmly on podium places.
A big piece for Dance Mix. Serhiy wants to build a large-scale routine for the Dance Mix team — possibly together with Yuniia Furman (not decided yet), possibly on his own. His one condition is not to rush it: "I want to do it properly, on a big scale — the way we worked on 'The Samurai'. Not in a month."
The dream scenario. That one of his students qualifies for Outbreak — one of Europe's biggest breaking festivals, where up to 200 dancers from around the world compete just to get through the selection. As Serhiy puts it, simply making it through selection, without any placing at all, is already a huge achievement and an experience you cannot get any other way.
IDC has walked this road before: the first entry for Dance World Cup was a single child who came along "just to look" — and three years on, ten of our dancers are heading to that championship.
